| The
Children's Friend family includes traditionally operated
early development and educational centers and Montessori
Schools. Each site typically provides care for children
ages 6 weeks to 10 years old.
Each
Children's Friend Learning Center implements the High/Scope
approach to learning in the pre-k and preschool programs.
The infant and toddler program is supplemented by locally
developed Planned Activities for Learning (PAL) Program.
The
PAL Program serves as a resource to infant and toddler
teachers in providing an overall structure to the care
and developmental activities of infants and toddlers.
Infant and Toddler programs are not a scaled-down version
of a good program for preschool children. The philosophy
supports that children from birth to age 3 have unique
characteristics and needs.
We
believe that infants and toddlers learn by experiencing
the environment through all the senses by moving around
and interacting with other people and the environment.
Because changes take place far more rapidly in infancy
than during any other period in life, the curriculum
content and teaching activities must be age appropriate
to meet the individual needs of each child. Within the
framework of a rich environment, infants and toddlers
are encouraged to look, listen, wiggle, roll, crawl,
climb, rock, bounce, grasp, rest, eat, and make noise.
In all areas of child development there is a sequence
of stages that are recognizable. The PAL Program focuses
on appropriate activities to allow for optimum growth
during each of these periods.
Our
Montessori Schools are located
in Augusta, Roswell and Snellville, Georgia. Each site
is accredited by Montessori Educational Programs International
(MEPI). Each preschool program implements Montessori
principals throughout.
In
order to meet the differing demands placed on individual
families, our Montessori schools also provide infant
and after school care. In implementing the Georgia Pre-k
program, some classes are comprised of 4 and 5 year
olds only, and do not blend 3 year olds into the class.
